Hello April! 🌼 Be a month of rebirth, regrowth and renewal

Dear Junipurr Family,

It's been a month of heartbreak and we are shaken by all the hate-filled violence towards the AAPI community.   This week, a man was charged in connection with 6 anti-Asian hate crimes just down the street from us.  I can't help but think what if one of those victims were my parents.  I pray to God every day for love and compassion in the world, for the end of violence and racism. I pray for peace and unity in our community and the protection of our elders.  In support of the #stopasianhate movement, we have designed a bamboo charm to raise funds for @stopasianhate. Bamboo symbolizes strength, resilience and balance.  We hope that this piece will emulate the resilience of the Asian community during these difficult times.

On a personal front, we are grateful that Spring is finally here!  We are loving our walks with a sweatshirt as opposed to our bulky winter jackets.  Last week, we got a chance to take my parents and kids for a mini getaway in Prince Edward County, which is 2 hours away from where we live. Jax was amazed that there is life beyond our home.   Being a covid baby, I was super happy he got to get away and see a little bit more of the world.

From a Junipurr perspective, it was stressful at the beginning of the month when we lost access to our IG account for 72 hours.  We are very thankful we got it recovered in a short period of time and we wrote an IG post to share our lessons learned.  We hope it never happens to any of you.  Being a small business owner, we understand how important a social media presence can directly affect our business.  We also launched our International Woman's Day giveaway and it was so nice to read all of your inspirational submissions.  Congratulations to Jess Sellars for being the winner of our IWD giveaway.   We are so excited to collaborate on a piece that represents Empowerment!  Lastly, we shared over 50 of our coming soon pieces which I am so excited about!

What We've worked on this Month:

Let's Talk Instagram Hacking

If you’re a small business owner, you understand how important a social media presence can directly affect your business.   On March 1st, our Junipurr Jewelry Instagram account got hacked, and temporarily deleted. This was a scary loss of control, and we are so grateful to have been able to recover our account.  We shared our lessons learned on how to keep your social media account secure.  1) Set up 2 factor authentication, 2) Set up your IG Account as a Business Account and create a Business Manager account on Facebook, 3) Use an app such as @1Passwordofficial to help manage your online login info.  Feel free to read the full article here.

International Women's Day

International Women’s Day is incredibly important for us to draw attention to as a female owned company. For us, International Women’s Day is a day to feel empowered, and build up other women within our community.  It is also a day to recognize that there is still work to be done, and improvements to be made.

For International Women’s Day, we did a giveaway of one Junipurr piece of choice, as well as the chance to design and name a custom jewelry piece to symbolize "empowerment" with us.   We asked our piercers to share notable women who have inspired them, ways women can better support each other within the piercing industry and impactful lessons learned from other women.  Below are two of the many we had received.  Thank you for sharing with us.  Congratulations to Jess Sellars for being the winner of this giveaway!

Supporting the Asian Community

Junipurr Jewelry does not stand for any type of racism. Period.  Since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, the surge in misinformation has caused the number of hate crimes and violence against Asian Americans, Asian Canadians, and Pacific Islanders to drastically rise.  We will not be turning a blind eye to the work that needs to be done.   Anti-Asian hate crimes have increased by 717% in Vancouver, Canada alone.

This number does not even begin to reflect unreported crimes, or incidents that are not being classified as “hate crimes” globally.

In support of the #stopasianhate movement, we have designed this bamboo charm to raise funds for @stopasianhate. Bamboo symbolizes strength, resilience and balance.  We hope that this piece will emulate the resilience of the Asian community during these difficult times.

All profits generated from this piece will be donated to @stopasianhate - Support the AAPI Community Fund. You can read more about it here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-aapi-community-fund

In the meantime, we’re asking our community to start talking.  Start checking in with your friends, family members, or co-workers who might need support.   Begin raising awareness among your social circle and further educate yourself on what is going on. The AAPI website is a great place to start.

We know our community at Junipurr is strong. We stand with you, and we will not be silenced.
